Improving Your Odds of Winning The Lottery

Using statistics and calculating odds can be very interesting but sometimes useless. For example, did you know that the odds of an average golfer hitting a 'hole in one' in a given round are 12,000-to-1 and the odds of getting two in the same round are 67,000,000-to-1?

So imagine the surprise of spectators when Danny Leake, an amateur golfer, achieved an unbelievable 'hole in one' on the same hole two days in a row at a tournament in Texas (something that is so unusual the odds of it happening have never been calculated). Pity such a lucky guy didn't play the lottery that day instead!

Some time ago a famous New York paper reported on a working-class man who spent most of his hard earned money on lottery tickets.Ray Otero foolishly believes that buy ploughing his money into lottery tickets he is increasing his chances of winning a jackpot prize with each purchase (by sheer number of tickets).

The truth is that, statistically, buying more tickets, that are chosen randomly and not using a mathematical system, does not increase your chances of winning a prize in the lottery at all!

Do you know that if you buy a 6 from 49 lottery ticket, like those sold on the UK National Lottery, on a Monday that you have a statistically better chance of being dead on Saturday than winning the lottery jackpot?

This is because you have a measly fourteen million to one chance of winning the UK jackpot. These low odds apply to every ticket you buy. Buying more tickets does not give you a better chance of winning.

Take heart though because you can do certain things that dramatically increase the odds of you winning a huge lottery prize and they don't require you to spend a fortune doing it! Let's take a wheeling system as an example.

When you use a wheeling system the odds of winning a top prize are improved by millions to 1. When you add only one number to your pick (in a 6 from 49 lotto draw) you increase your chances of winning by millions, literally! You have to buy more tickets therefore your lottery stake money goes up. But, an interesting thing happens - your odds of winning go up in leaps and bounds.

When you use wheeling in a 6 from 49 draw, like the UK lottery, and use 7 numbers instead of 6 the odds of winning are slashed from 14 million to 1 down to half a million to 1 - with just 1 extra number and a £28 stake!!

So, if Mr. Otero had only played a 6 from 49, or similar type of lottery, and wheeled his numbers he may well be a very wealthy man by now.
